* Holidays '94 Screen Saver *
* Copyright 1994 *
* John T. Pape *
* Compuserve: 74676,2453 *
* America Online: PapeJ *
******************************
Note: Maximize this window for easier reading.
System Requirements:
An IBM Compatible 386 Computer (486 Optimum)
Microsoft Windows 3.1 or Windows for Work Groups 3.11
VGA, Mouse, Windows compatible sound card (optional)
Visual Basic 3.0 Runtime Library (VBRUN300.DLL)
Installation:
If you did not run the self-extracting file HOLDAY.EXE from
within the Windows directory, you should now copy the
following files to that directory:
SSXMAS.SCR
SSXMAS1.MID
SSXMAS2.MID
SSXMAS3.MID
SSXMAS4.MID
SSXMAS5.MID
SSXMAS6.MID
SSXMAS.TXT
You will also need a copy of the Visual Basic runtime library,
VBRUN300.DLL. You probably already have a copy of this file
as many Windows programs require it. It should be in the
Windows\System subdirectory, but check all of your Windows
directories. If you don't have a copy, it is available for
downloading in the Windows libraries on both Compuserve and
America Online.
Loading the Program
From Windows Control Panel, open the Desktop icon. You should
see the title "Holidays '94" in the list of available screen
savers. Click on the title to select it. Then choose "Setup"
to configure the program to your machine. If you do not have
a Windows 3.1 compatible sound card, select "No Music" if it
is not already. The length of time for each snow shower is
adjusted by the horizontal scroll bar. The speed of your
computer may warrant some adjustment to this setting, i.e.
faster CPUs may want to lengthen the duration of the snowfall.
Once you are satisfied with the setup, click on "Save".
Midi Music Setup:
If your midi compatible sound card (Sound Blaster, Pro Audio
Spectrum, Adlib, etc.) works with other Windows 3.1 programs,
then you should be okay with this one also. If not, then check
to see if the Midi Mapper and MCI Sequencer drivers are
installed by going to Control Panel and opening the Drivers
icon. You should see a list of installed drivers including
the Midi Mapper and MCI Sequencer. These are usually installed
by default when Windows 3.1 is loaded. If they are not
present, then click on "Add" and select "Updated or unlisted
driver". The next file list you see should contain the drivers
in question. Load them and restart Windows if prompted. If
you encounter a problem at this point, you may need to open the
Midi Mapper icon in the Control Panel and set the driver to
"Adlib" or "Adlib General". A good music test is to run the
Windows Media Player applet and load and play the Midi file
that comes with Windows (\WINDOWS\CANYON.MID).
