  14.     Microsoft Windows 3.1 or Windows for Work Groups 3.11
  15.     VGA, Mouse, Windows compatible sound card (optional)

  19. Installation:

  21. If you did not run the self-extracting file HOLDAY.EXE from
  22. within the Windows directory, you should now copy the
  23. following files to that directory:

  25.             SSXMAS.SCR
  26.             SSXMAS1.MID
  27.             SSXMAS2.MID
  28.             SSXMAS3.MID
  29.             SSXMAS4.MID
  30.             SSXMAS5.MID
  31.             SSXMAS6.MID
  32.             SSXMAS.TXT

  35. You will also need a copy of the Visual Basic runtime library,
  36. VBRUN300.DLL.  You probably already have a copy of this file
  37. as many Windows programs require it.  It should be in the
  38. Windows\System subdirectory, but check all of your Windows
  39. directories.  If you don't have a copy, it is available for
  40. downloading in the Windows libraries on both Compuserve and
  41. America Online.

  44. Loading the Program
  45.  
  46. From Windows Control Panel, open the Desktop icon.  You should
  47. see the title "Holidays '94" in the list of available screen
  48. savers.  Click on the title to select it.  Then choose "Setup"
  49. to configure the program to your machine.  If you do not have
  50. a Windows 3.1 compatible sound card, select "No Music" if it
  51. is not already.  The length of time for each snow shower is
  52. adjusted by the horizontal scroll bar.  The speed of your
  53. computer may warrant some adjustment to this setting, i.e.
  54. faster CPUs may want to lengthen the duration of the snowfall.
  55. Once you are satisfied with the setup, click on "Save".

  58. Midi Music Setup:

  60. If your midi compatible sound card (Sound Blaster, Pro Audio
  61. Spectrum, Adlib, etc.) works with other Windows 3.1 programs,
  62. then you should be okay with this one also.  If not, then check
  63. to see if the Midi Mapper and MCI Sequencer drivers are
  64. installed by going to Control Panel and opening the Drivers
  65. icon.  You should see a list of installed drivers including
  66. the Midi Mapper and MCI Sequencer.  These are usually installed
  67. by default when Windows 3.1 is loaded.  If they are not
  68. present, then click on "Add" and select "Updated or unlisted
  69. driver".  The next file list you see should contain the drivers
  70. in question.  Load them and restart Windows if prompted.  If
  71. you encounter a problem at this point, you may need to open the
  72. Midi Mapper icon in the Control Panel and set the driver to
  73. "Adlib" or "Adlib General".  A good music test is to run the
  74. Windows Media Player applet and load and play the Midi file
  75. that comes with Windows (\WINDOWS\CANYON.MID).
